In this blog I will take you along this route. This B &amp; B is well maintained and is very convenient for exploring the old center. The center of Aosta is <strong>car-free<\/strong> and there are a number of <strong>archaeological sites<\/strong> to visit. You can buy an all-in-one ticket for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lovevda.it\/en\/database\/8\/roman-architecture\/aosta\/cryptoporticus\/1259\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Criptoportico Forense<\/strong><\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lovevda.it\/en\/database\/8\/roman-architecture\/aosta\/roman-theatre\/736\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Teatro Romano<\/strong><\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lovevda.it\/en\/database\/8\/archeology\/aosta\/early-christian-basilica-of-san-lorenzo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Chiesa Paleocristiana di San Lorenzo<\/strong><\/a>. If you don&#8217;t like culture, you can of course also just stroll through the streets. Delicious food is certainly part of it, we can recommend restaurant \/ bar <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adforum-enoteca.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ad Forum<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aosta-Grand Saint Bernard-Martigny<\/h2>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Saint-Bernardo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1711\" width=\"251\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Saint-Bernardo.jpg 640w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Saint-Bernardo-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Saint-Bernardo-585x439.jpg 585w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 251px) 100vw, 251px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p><p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large XcVN5d tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Vertaling\"><span lang=\"en\">The first stage of the <strong>tour of Mont Blanc<\/strong> goes straight up from <strong>Aosta<\/strong> via the SS27 towards the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_St_Bernard_Pass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Grand Saint Bernard<\/strong><\/a> pass. This is a fantastic route with impressive views. The roads were in very good condition, without many potholes or loose stones. So enjoy it. Make sure you don&#8217;t take the tunnel a little before reaching the top, because you will miss a well-deserved break. At the top of the pass you will find a reservoir lake and a restaurant as well as the <strong>statue of Saint Bernard<\/strong>. Here they obviously sell the <strong>St. Bernard plush toys<\/strong> \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p><\/p>\n\n<p><p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large XcVN5d tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Vertaling\"><span lang=\"en\">After the break you almost immediately cross the border with <strong>Switzerland<\/strong> and the descent to <strong>Martigny<\/strong> begins. Here the road was <strong>less well maintained<\/strong> in the beginning. Moreover, any kind of <strong>protection is missing<\/strong> along the <strong>spectacular abyss<\/strong>. Here too, of course, an enormously impressive nature. Arriving in <strong>Martigny<\/strong> it was time for lunch, this time not in the center because we were looking forward to eat <strong>Peruvian Ceviche<\/strong>. We had a delicious meal at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.martigny-hotel.ch\/valais\/restaurant-cordillere-139.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>La Cordill\u00e8re<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Martigny-Chamonix<\/h2>\n\n<p><p>After lunch we continued the <strong>tour of Mont Blanc<\/strong> via the Route de la Forclaz. After the border with France, this road turns into the D1506. This part of the route is much less rugged than the Grand Saint Bernard Pass. The difference in height is also less, although you will still encounter some hairpin bends. You now mainly drive through forests and a number of villages. After the last real climb you will be treated to a <strong>fantastic view<\/strong> of <strong>Mont Blanc<\/strong>, truly breathtaking.<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p><p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large XcVN5d tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Vertaling\"><span lang=\"en\">It was our first time in <strong>Chamonix<\/strong> so we stayed for two nights. <a href=\"https:\/\/lafoliedoucehotels.com\/en\/hotel-chamonix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Hotel La Folie Douce<\/strong><\/a> is very nice with\u00a0 lovely rooms, a gym,\u00a0 a spa and swimming pool.<\/span><\/p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chamonix<\/h2>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/chamonix-2607603_640.jpg\" alt=\"Flowers in Chamonix\" class=\"wp-image-1714\" width=\"324\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/chamonix-2607603_640.jpg 640w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/chamonix-2607603_640-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/chamonix-2607603_640-585x389.jpg 585w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/chamonix-2607603_640-263x175.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 324px) 100vw, 324px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p><p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large XcVN5d tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Vertaling\"><span lang=\"en\">Chamonix is \u200b\u200ba wonderfully relaxed village, or maybe it was because of the COVID-19 and the time of year. A mask was required in the &#8220;busy&#8221; center, but since it was not busy many people walked around without a mask. You can indulge yourself in the center if you are an <strong>outdoors type<\/strong> because the majority of the shops are specialized in <strong>trekking, cycling, mountaineering and winter sports<\/strong>. This cable car takes you from just over 1000 meters to no less than <strong>3840 meters<\/strong>. Do take a sweater or jacket with you because it is a lot cooler at this height. We were lucky because we could immediately walk through and get into the cable car. Once at the top, it is pure enjoyment, what an incredible view. The <strong>Mont Blanc<\/strong> towers another 1000 meters above you and you can see the mountaineers walking up the mountain.<\/span><\/p><\/p>\n\n<p><p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large XcVN5d tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Vertaling\"><span lang=\"en\">If you are not afraid of heights you can also step into the glass box that they mounted on the outside, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chamonix.com\/aiguille-du-midi-step-into-the-void,80,en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Step into the Void<\/strong><\/a> \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chamonix-Beaufort-Bourg Saint Maurice<\/h2>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/barrage-de-Saint-Guerin-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"barrage de Saint Guerin\" class=\"wp-image-1720\" width=\"164\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/barrage-de-Saint-Guerin-1-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/barrage-de-Saint-Guerin-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/barrage-de-Saint-Guerin-1-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 164px) 100vw, 164px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p><p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large XcVN5d tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Vertaling\"><span lang=\"en\">After enjoying this rest, the spa and a massage in <strong>Chamonix<\/strong>, it was time to continue our <strong>tour of Mont Blanc<\/strong>. If you want, you can also shorten the route here and take the <strong>Mont Blanc tunnel<\/strong> back to <strong>Aosta<\/strong>. Fortunately the weather was still nice so we could continue the tour. We arrived in <strong>Beaufort<\/strong> via <strong>beautiful and well-maintained roads (D218 and D70)<\/strong>, meandering through a constantly changing landscape. It was lunchtime again, so we enjoyed the <strong>local cuisine<\/strong>. Just past <strong>Beaufort<\/strong> the road was closed so we continued via a small detour. The reservoir lakes of <strong>Saint Gu\u00e9rin<\/strong> and <strong>Roselend<\/strong> are nice places to take a break before the descent to <strong>Bourg Saint Maurice<\/strong> begins. Here we spent the night in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autantic.fr\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>hotel Autantic<\/strong><\/a>, which is a nice place just outside the village. The village itself is well worth a visit with its old and car-free center. A must for dinner is <strong>El Refuge<\/strong>, unfortunately they don&#8217;t have a website but they are easy to find.<\/span><\/p><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/lac-de-Roseland-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"lac de Roselend\" class=\"wp-image-1723\" width=\"228\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/lac-de-Roseland-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/lac-de-Roseland-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/lac-de-Roseland-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/janhbos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/lac-de-Roseland-1536x1152.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 228px) 100vw, 228px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bourg Saint Maurice-Aosta<\/h2>\n\n<p><p id=\"tw-target-text\" class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large XcVN5d tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Vertaling\"><span lang=\"en\">And then it is time for the last stage of the <strong>tour of Mont Blanc<\/strong>. This part starts with a considerable climb, but after that it is mainly descending through forests and a few winter sports villages. <strong>La Rosi\u00e8re<\/strong> in France and <strong>La Thuile<\/strong> in Italy are the best known. The route numbers are the <strong>D1090 and SS26<\/strong>. Halfway through you drive over a kind of plateau and you pass the <strong>Petit Saint Bernard pass<\/strong>. The roads on this stretch are again excellent and in Italy even recently paved.<\/span><\/p><\/p>\n\n<p><p>After a <strong>last series of hairpin bends<\/strong> we arrived back in the <strong>Aosta valley<\/strong>.
